Experience from Iris Scheer
“My intership allowed me to work with mathematical models while gaining valuable knowledge about writing clean, maintainable code.”
Working as an aerospace engineering student in a highly mathematical company offers many learning opportunities. As students, we learn to use programming scripts in projects and assignments. However, working at Doing The Math allowed me to observe and work with mathematical models converted into programming packages.
Besides observing, as part of some student assistant tasks, you can contribute to these packages under the supervision of one of the modeling consultants with frequent feedback sessions. By doing so, I gained much knowledge about how to write clean and maintainable code, use GitHub, and other types of scripts in programming packages.
When the time came for me to start an internship, DTM provided me with the opportunity to do my internship for them. Although DTM’s expertise is not in the aviation sector, we came up with an internship topic that combines an aviation-related idea with DTM’s expertise. During the internship, I studied the supply chain of Sustainable Aviation Fuels and the challenges that come with it. With DTM’s guidance and the opportunity to dive into DTM’s supply chain design optimization model, my internship has been a really valuable part of my studies and my time at DTM.
